Petticoat Tutorial

When shopping at thrift stores, one must have an eye towards creativity. Take, for instance, this size 3X cream linen skirt:

I thought instantly, “Petticoat!”

Here is how it is done:

1.) It had a zipper and button. Pop off the button and save.

2.) Ditto, with zipper.

3.) Cut off the waistband and elasticated back. You may need to whack off more length here to make it fit your skirt.

4.) Serge cut edge (or zig-zag or just fold n’ press) to make a new elastic casing.

5.) Stitch down casing, leaving a couple inches of open space to insert elastic. Stitch together ends of elastic and then close up the gap.

And you’ve got a petticoat! Just look at the lace insertion and ruffle.

How cute! You did a really good job. Have yet to get ahold of a petticoat myself.

I love petticoats! I’m wearing one right now 🙂 There’s something about multiple layers of skirts that make you feel so swishy and lady-like!

awesome! I am hoping I can start thinking outside the box and get creative like that! lol. I am thinking of turning one of my oldest daughter’s shirts into a skirt for my youngest, since its torn (and not so modest as a shirt)

"I can't say I don't believe in your God, but I don't believe He meant the world to be as it is." ~Nicholas Higgins. North and South.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." No idea where that last quote came from, but I like it!
