Now you’ve done it, tv stations everywhere. Make a ginormous fuss over how great and wonderful this new technology of digital tv transmission is supposed to be. We go out and upgrade the bunny ears and get a “box”. Then…when you flip the switch…
We get nothing. Most of the time.
We do get 5 official stations alright but if there is even a flap of the proverbial butterfly’s wings in the Amazon, we lose the signal and the screen goes black. With analog, the picture might be fuzzy, but at least we could make it out and listen in. Its all or nothing with digital transition.
I am actually totally cool with not watching tv, except losing PBS. Diehard Antiques Roadshow fan. Yeah. Bummer. If the weather gets scary we have radio or the internet.
I predict much more reading and togetherness in our household over the next three months.

The digital transition was delayed to june.
Also, unfortunately if you get a channel poorly in Analog you won’t get it at all in Digital.
There is no bad reception for digital – it’s either you see it or you don’t.
My point exactly…no “gray” areas in digital! Blech. Our local broadcasters switched on the 17th anyways. The June date was an option as far as I heard.

The box here was connected, & then unconnected again. Why? Because only 2 stations were coming in, and until June, I get 5 without the box….5 that the box will not pick up, because they are not yet fully transmitting in digital.
Now the aforementioned 2 stations are broadcasting 😦 24/7 instructions on how to hook up the box. In Spanish. Which I do not understand. The joys of 🙂 technology, 😦 big government, & of course general stupidity.
I have never bought the official “wonderful reception & saves bandwidth” explanation. This is just one more way to control what we can see & hear.
Yes, I am paranoid. Even paranoid people, you see, have people who are 😉 out to get them.
So in other words, this was actually a win.
Win-win all around…currently watching Pride & Prejudice 1995 DVD. “Other way Mr. Collins!”

We “upgraded” to satellite after years of bunny ears, and I cannot say that even that is any better– the signal is always going out, the tech has to come in and fix it up… blech.
All we ever watch is PBS’s “Super Why” and my husband like to catch the St. Louis Blues hockey team.
Right now the satellite is out again, and since my husband is out of town, I plan to do exactly nothing about it. LOL.
And YES, YES, YES, it is creepy that our government is so “concerned” that some people might not be able to watch TV.
How will they pump their ignorant constituents full of nonsense if the teevees quit working?
You are so right. I ran out and got the box and we got several useless channels and one called “qubo” that my son loves. However, recently, we don’t get much of anything!! The ONLY reason why I got the box was so I could get PBS. I don’t get PBS at all on the box. *pout* Oh well, less TV is still good. For the first 4 years of our marriage, we didn’t have any TV whatsoever.
I don’t think we’ll get a box. If we want to watch shows, we can go to the gym and work for it 😉 We’ll keep the old tv for DVD’s and our son’s homeschool videos.
