When the numbers are divided out…this gives an Autism Spectrum prevelance of 1 in 66 people.

100,852,000 + Autistics in the world.

While that’s sinking, however, let’s try not to sink into the implication that somehow autism is a scourge to be feared worse than a deadly virus. Only that there are a lot of autistics in the world — as well as a lot of people living with AIDS — and that we’d best come up with more loving and understanding ways of living with them.

On the other hand, you can’t imagine AIDS but over enthusiastic psychologists, doctors and other researchers can imagine autism. Since it became tres chic to research the numbers of children on the spectrum have gone up expoentially. I suspect a lot of kids are getting a label they don’t deserve and diverting resources from those who need them.

"I can't say I don't believe in your God, but I don't believe He meant the world to be as it is." ~Nicholas Higgins. North and South.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." No idea where that last quote came from, but I like it!
