A Wish

This poem was recovered from a time capsule, written in 1925. How far we have fallen….

A Wish !

Sturdy Citizens of the great and hardy common wealth of the State of Oklahoma :

In a choice part of these fair prairies

Of the great plains of the sturdy South-West,

A magnificent portion of a proud magnificently

Great and glorious Nation – the United States of America –

In the neighborhood of both stream and mountain –

There rests this beautiful day,

A Growing Institution, dedicated to the Sons

And daughters of Agricultural and Cultural interests,

In this immediate vicinity –

An Institution of Hope – within thy keeping!

Citizens, this day a corner stone,

Another milestone as it were,

In the progress of this struggling school

Is being laid:

May this occasion mark a new period of progress –

Rural advancement and service to be rendered,

In a spirit of better understanding and cooperation

For the future history of the —— ——- School of Agriculture!

‘What so ever a man soweth that will he also reap’ –

May the seed sown be good that it bring forth good fruit,

We ask that thy heart, hand and guidance work with

The Almighty Power of a good and gracious God –

In working and preserving the destiny of this little

Agricultural School – in a manner acceptable to

HIS KEEPING and sponsored by Christian Influences –

Honest effort and sound judgment!

Science Instructor.

Wow, what a beautiful poem. How very sad we turned away from the way it was in the early 1900’s. They would be so sad to know how the schools and society is today. I think if they would have known how it turned out they would have stayed on their farms and kept their kids far far away from the school system. Worldly knowledge makes us dependent on our selves instead of our Saviour. Thank you for letting us read this beautiful poem.

"I can't say I don't believe in your God, but I don't believe He meant the world to be as it is." ~Nicholas Higgins. North and South.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." No idea where that last quote came from, but I like it!
