Mom Lung Cancer Update, 6-12-08

In case anyone remembered…

Mom had her pericardium drained two days ago. There was almost a quart of excess fluid in it!! She spent the night on Tuesday and by noon on Wednesday the drs. sent her home. She sooo wanted to be back in her own bed. I don’t blame her one bit.

No word yet on how the cancer is doing/not doing.

Your story sounds too familiar. My Mom has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (small-cell). Fluids build in her chest cavity all of the time. The Dr.’s never give you an update on how things are progressing. It’s like they want to keep you in limbo or something. This is one disease that I would not wish on anyone. I’m currently looking for a support group for people who are taking care of loved ones while they are battling cancer.

Anyway, good luck, and I wish only the best for you Mom.

Of course people remembered! Especially those of us who have nursed our mothers through major illnesses.

May God’s blessing rest upon you and your family.

Leslie ~ Support groups are wonderful things! There are a couple of lung cancer orgs out there that have listings for groups and also 800 numbers in case you need to talk to some one right away. No matter the type of lung cancer, I’ve found it is the most alienating of the cancers. Breast, and even colon, are trendy. Lung cancer is perceived as something you bring on yourself, which is just flat out not true 30% of the time. Hang in there, sis!

Pearl ~ Thank you for the kind words! Its been almost 4 years now since her diagnosis. Long road with many trials and joys! đŸ™‚

"I can't say I don't believe in your God, but I don't believe He meant the world to be as it is." ~Nicholas Higgins. North and South.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." No idea where that last quote came from, but I like it!
