Hijabi Fashion: First Attempt

We went shopping last night for a nice outfit for Jeff’s competition…and came home with a new outfit for me, too! The dress has a brown dot/geometric print which doesn’t show up too good in the photo. The shirt underneath the dress, the shoes and the scarf I already owned. What do you think?

Jeff really likes it. Only one person (who is also an Avon sales lady with classy taste) at work gave me a compliment. That’s ok. I feel great, though slightly weird for wearing a pants outfit. Everything is covered and no underthings are showing!

Adorable! I think you’ve managed to pull off a look that’s not too close to “religious cross-dressing”. 😛

    Evonne,

    Thank you! 🙂

Yeah, that is a fine line with the “cross-dressing” thing. Frankly, I don’t mind as much now. Even when I wear jumpers and smaller headscarves, I would still get the Muslim students approaching me to say, Salaam Alaikum. That’s ok, because I would rather have their paradigms shifted than to be immodest.

I’ve got two more outfits lined up (yay, Goodwill!) but no hubby to snap photos. I will do a fashion show on Sunday.

    hiiii
call me your friend from Iran! :)..i wanted to say the way you have dressed is AWESOME. dont mind what others say; criticize or laughting at you. your heart says you whats wrong and right and you’re responsibe in in presense of God not in presense of people! so thats important that God is satisfied with you not people ( specialy such ignorant ones who walk around half-naked)

    May God bless you

I love it! I have recently decided to cover.. I am a young modern woman (only turned 20 last week) and I do not know anyone who covers (onyl Muslim friends.) I dress modestly but am not comfortabelt o wear logn skirts only and big dresses.. I am Baptist/Church if Christ and not traditional in the sense that I dont want to look amish or something! So right now am strugglign as to how i shoudl dress and cover – pictures of other women, seeign as I dotn know any is SUCH a help. This outfit is modest and yet nice – it is somethign i coudl wear! Thanks!

Quotes

"I can't say I don't believe in your God, but I don't believe He meant the world to be as it is." ~Nicholas Higgins. North and South.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." No idea where that last quote came from, but I like it!
