My Current Knitting Project: 8-15-07

When I was ten year old girl, I was the only one of my age group that I knew of at school, neighborhood, or at church that knitted. The next skill I learned was how to spin my own yarn. Again…I was in the company of middle-aged women at a spinner’s guild. Instead of saving my money for a CD player or some other new thing at the time, I saved for an Ashford wheel. Kids teased me for my hobbies. I didn’t care…it was fun! Who knew knitting would become the hobby/artform de rigeur!

Anna S asked for knitting projects we are working on. Here it is.

Baby items are my “meat and potatoes” type of knitting. They work up fast, are portable and extremely cute. 🙂 Its always nice to have a hat and bootie set on hand for a shower gift. Since my sis-in-law may have a preemie this time around, (and doesn’t know the sex of the baby) I made up some white booties. They are stuffed with kleenex to make them stand up. The hat, as you can see, is in progress. I use Baby Bernat yarn almost exclusively now because it is soft and has some body to it.

You may find a similar pattern at Bev’s Country Cottage, here. The patterns are beginner level. I can knit a bootie in less than 30 minutes while watching tv or a movie.

Thanks for the link…I need to start trying to knit some booties, now that we’re finally having a winter baby! For whatever reason, I’ve never made booties or hats. You’re the second person I’ve “met” in this town who spins…the other was in my knitting group and moved in May, otherwise it might have been cool for you two to meet.

Good job! I love Bev’s Country Cottage for baby knitting patterns.

And you spin too? Are you my long lost sister or something? 😉

Oh, how pretty!!!! Sister, you should sell some of your stuff on eBay or Etsy! Folks would snatch that homemade stuff up easily!
God blessed you with a beautiful talent! 🙂

"I can't say I don't believe in your God, but I don't believe He meant the world to be as it is." ~Nicholas Higgins. North and South.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." No idea where that last quote came from, but I like it!
