7 More Things

Alana gave me the perfect excuse to share seven more things about myself. Let’s call this one, “7 ways I became obnoxiously accomplished”:

  1. I took 8 years of ballet as a child/teen, plus two more years as an adult. That might explain why I’m soooo frustrated with being “fat” recently. I’ve had my body the way I wanted it and used it the way I wanted it for so long….ok, enough psychoanalyzing on the first point!
  2. Three years of piano lessons, to the point where I can read music. Bach Rocks.
  3. Ad naseum art lessons: drawing, painting, even pottery. Drawing is my best. I can only paint in three dimensions if I can do it in pointillism.
  4. Sew, knit, embroider, spin yarn, dye, and cover screens and I know not what else. ;)
  5. Add in one year of Irish Step Dancing lessons and a smidgen of ice skating lessons. I skate backwards better than I do forwards. Still have my really expensive ice skates in the closet with no ice arena within 2 hours drive. Drat!
  6. Enough German to get me lunch and a train ticket.
  7. Is baking perfect chocolate chip cookies one of the finer distinctions of civilization? If so, I am a truly accomplished woman.

Your turn. How accomplished are you?

[All the above is factual, but said in a completely LOL manner.]

Wildlife Pics

Some photos from a recent excursion to the Refuge.

This bison was just strolling along between the fence and the road. I snapped the pic as Jeff slowed the car to a roll. Explains the crookedness.  As we came up over the hill, we saw he was headed to a large herd of his friends. [Sorry...no pic and I left the camera at home!]

Not sure if you all can see the geese all lined up along the top of the spillway of the lock. It was rather cool in person.

They all hopped into the lake as we walked around the other side.

Take the test!

Awwww…rabbits! I got docked for putting my cold feet on my husband’s legs at night and wearing pajamas instead of nightgowns.

A Brief Interlude

::::Update:::: Keep forgetting to bring my camera to work to upload photos…but it wouldn’t matter because I’ve hardly a moment to myself this week. I added some article links below for your reading enjoyment.

Welcome back (if indeed you left at all) from the weekend! We had an eventful one and I am still picking up the pieces. It was a good weekend, I keep telling myself.

This week I promise I will get back onto subject with Modesty and Headcovering issues. In the meantime, read this heart-warming tale of the Midwestern American spirit. Guaranteed to make you cry!

Reformed SHEology has a series going about headcoverings that are fabulous to read. Highly Recommended!

Military Wifey has a couple of articles here and here on modesty. She brings up a good point about not dressing like a bum when one is aiming for modesty. This is hard for me to read because the word ‘cute’ is used often…as in….you NEED to look CUTE in order to be acceptable in society… I feel a rant coming on.

I discovered a new modest lady’s blog, A Rose in Mary’s Garden. She is pondering starting a modest clothing business, so keep check back to her blog.

Penny wrote a beautiful article on headcovering from a Catholic perspective.

And a new blog, Free to Cover. Great thoughts!

Does this make me Elinor Dashwood?

You scored as Edward Ferrars

Edward Ferrars from Sense and Sensibility is one of the most awkward characters you’ll come across, but it’s endearing once his better qualities come out. He’s devoted, extremely true to his word, and gentle.

Jeff took the quiz. He received the score I predicted. No surprise here…he likes chickens and making short sermons.

My 300th Post

My dashboard tells me this will be the 300th post I have written for my blog. I wish I had something impressive to share with y’all!

We have the day off today. Jeff is napping after eating out with a group of men from church. They do a weekly lunch together but Jeff rarely gets to go because of his strict school schedule. I bought some lovely light blue fabric for a new jumper from Joanns. There is a cream-colored blouse with blue embroidery sitting in the back of my closet just waiting for a matching jumper. :)

In a couple of hours we will head out to see the premier of the Prince Caspian move. I hardly ever go see movies in the theater, let alone on opening day. I had a free ticket coupon to use, so I saved it for this event. You see, my dad read the Chronicles of Narnia to me as bed time stories, six times through. They are deeply ingrained into my psyche! So the incredible movie adaptations now coming out were a must-see in my estimation.

And, yes, you should read the book before seeing the movie. :)

Pondering Things

This post is a mental sticky note. You may or may not see these subjects in future posts…unless you want to see them explained. :)

  1. Why is it that head covering opponents seem more trapped in their cultural context ["We don't wear those any more, therefore, it is cultural!"] than those who are pro-headcovering?
  2. Bush compared the United States’ founding to the founding of Israel, even down to the “guiding principles”. Very appropriate. We push out/murder/fence in the natives so we can have a homeland. Because God told us to. Right.
  3. I need a vocation where I effect positive change in peoples’ lives. I am tired of being a desk jockey. And I don’t want to be a public school teacher or a nurse.
