Oklahoma Dismal Voter Turn Out

Since the powers-that-be have been tracking the numbers, this past primary vote on July 29th was perhaps the worst voter turn out on record in the state’s history.

I wonder why. Let me review:

  1. I have not seen, nor heard, nor read, nor otherwise been inculcated with ANY campaign information. Nada, zilch, none. From the Republicans, that is. Plenty of signs for the County Clerk position, which were two Democrats running against each other. We didn’t know that going into the polling place.
  2. The Media [ahem, channel 7!!!] have not spoken a word in the weeks leading up to the primary, that there was indeed a primary taking place and what/who we would be voting for. Instead, they preferred to share the gruesome details of violent deaths from other states to fill their evening news hour.
  3. We managed to hear through our political grapevine that there was a primary the day BEFORE.
  4. We knew we didn’t want to vote for the incumbent senator, but, we had no idea whom to chose from the other three people running. I guessed. Jeff chose the woman, I chose one of the two men.

We live in a pretty darn SAD state in the U.S. of A. No political choice…and when there is a choice, they don’t want us to know.

New Pots & Pans!

Here is my birthday/anniversary present from my parents! They are a new set of stainless steel cookware, to replace my cheapy college student set. Already I can see how much better they are in cooking things evenly. The clean up is harder than with a non-stick pan, especially eggs. Anybody have some tricks about cleaning stainless steel?

The Graduate

He is a certified Geek! Anyone hiring in Virginia, Ohio, or elsewhere near those states?

Cool Song and Video

One of the coolest music videos I’ve ever seen (right up there with ReadySetGo and the treadmills)

Prayers for the Sisters

Two very distressing news bits from my blogging circle:

First is Amy at Clothesline Alley. She is having a serious bout of MS, newly diagnosed, and her husband is leaving for Iraq. Stop by and offer your support!

And a second sister, who shall remain nameless, is going through some major upheaval with her family. They are safe in the care of Christ. Pray that they remain safe and that she is provided for.

Anyone else need prayer? Let me know in the comments.

First Confessions

We see sin as problems…but not as the evidence of death and corruption at work in us.

~Fr. Stephen Freeman

This is the smack on the nose thing I needed this morning. My sin is not a head-trip for which I need counseling and hand-holding. My whole being needs to be transfigured into that which reflects and has communion with Christ. Lord have mercy!

From that thought to this….

On Monday night, Jeff and I went over to a friends’ house for dinner. The gentleman has been a mentor of sorts to Jeff and they attend our Baptist church. One of the first questions Jack asked was, “So how are things going spiritually?”

We grinned and said, “Great!”

“So what is changing?” He asked. “Transitions is spiritual things usually are good or great.”

Uhoh….we were pinned!

What followed was a friendly exchange on how we ended up visiting an Orthodox Church two weeks ago. We hesitated, because of fear, mostly. They just wanted to be sure we would still keep our relationships open with our friends at the Baptist church. Of course we will, as far as it depends on us. Other folks we know will probably think we’ve gone batty in the belfry. [It has something to do with bells...LOL]

That was our first confession of finding the Faith. Pray for us, as we must do it repeatedly!

Headcovering Meetup

And the lovely lady I met this past Saturday was…

Dawn from On a Quest For Plain Living! She drove up with her husband for a weekend visit. We enjoyed lunch and a shopping visit to Hobby Lobby. Great times!

Good News from the Doctor!

I do not have diabetes…not even close to it. No genetic markers for it either. WOW!

My thyroid autoimmunity is much lower than last year.

I do not need any thyroid medication.

Cholesterol is at an acceptable range.

The only thing is that I need to eat more salt. More salt. Did I hear her correctly?

My electrolytes were a little off balance. So eat more salt. And drink/eat fruit twice daily.

That’s it!

Addendum: I learned that I have an intolerance to sorbitol. I bloat up like a watermelon if I chew gum or eat fake sugar candies.

Weekend…and…

I forgot to bring the blankety blank usb cable from home. The camera made it into my backpack. Blame it on Monday. Really, I have photographic evidence of a….drumroll….

Headcovering meet-up!

That’s right…one of those ladies on my sidebar came to town and we had a fun afternoon together. At least, I had a good time. I hope she did, too! :)

I know you all are tired of me complaining about how busy my life is…but it is. This is Jeff’s LAST week of school. Friday night is his little graduation ceremony. To say I am proud is an understatement. He is my super hero in more ways than one.

Quotes

"I can't say I don't believe in your God, but I don't believe He meant the world to be as it is." ~Nicholas Higgins. North and South.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." No idea where that last quote came from, but I like it!
